Rotherfield is criss-crossed with a network of bridleways and country walks through picturesque farmland and woodland.

The walks are well-signposted and the whole network has been completely renovated, restoring these ancient rights of way to their former glory.

There are over 40 miles of public rights of way, and some 11 miles of bridleways and byways in the parish.

There is safe parking for horse boxes in the new village car park (opening summer 2005), or at Forgewood Tea Rooms on Sham Farm Road (call first - 01892 750006).
In Rotherfield, riders can create their own rides, whatever the distance. A number of liveries are available should you wish to stay overnight.

After exploring the bridle paths of Rotherfield, you could box over to Bewl Water and ride the 18 mile circuit around the largest water reservoir in the South East. Alternatively nearby Bedgebury Forest houses the Bedgebury Riding Centre with its vast array of bridleways and forest rides.

Or make Rotherfield your stopping off point if you’re on a long distance ride using the High Weald Bridle Route. Rotherfield has recently invested in the regeneration of many of its bridleways, click here for more information.

Riding lessons are available in the parish at the Orchard Riding School & Livery Stables. See the Visitor Directory for more information.
